Holiday Season 2008

This past week as I was shopping for a gift in the women’s department of a well known department store in Orem, Utah I noticed an exuberant and smartly dressed shopper happily browsing racks of fashionable clothing. What’s so special about this scenario?

All of the clothing was my size!!! Yes, that’s right, racks and racks of trendy, gorgeous plus size clothing!! Look how far we have come. I can certainly remember not too long ago when I was lucky to find one sweater in my size on a bargain rack shoved into the back of the women’s department. Finally, the fashion industry has realized that millions of curvy women just like me are the real trend setters. Consider that of the $140 billion spent on women’s clothing last year, $90 billion was plus size!! How about another little tidbit of information, over 60% of women worldwide are plus size!

I am thrilled that beautiful and fashionable clothing is available more readily so that I can really knock them out all year long and at the annual Christmas get-together. Here’s wishing all of you a wonderful Holiday Season filled with blessings of good health and happiness!

Best regards,

Jennifer

Fashionable Plus Sized Women’s Clothing

The field of women’s fashions has always been a volatile one, here today, gone tomorrow kind of thing. But, in the last several years a constantly growing trend has emerged. One that shows no signs of slowing down. The segment of the women’s clothing market that continues to see the greatest growth is plus size women’s.  We are not just talking quantity, but increased quality and fashion as well. The evolution in this market segment has been dramatic.

Most of us know that traditionally, plus size women’s clothing has been an afterthought for women’s wear manufacturers. They had given little thought to the self image they were creating with their rather dowdy, mundane, and some times down right, dare I say it, ugly offerings. What self respecting woman really wanted to wear those double knit stretch plus size pants that soon were baggy and misshapen? None that I know of. What were they thinking when all they offered were the mu-mu style plus size dresses?

In today’s world, an ever growing number of women are more and more fashion conscious and demand that there clothes not only be functional, but stylish and of great quality.  Retailers are jumping for joy as their customers realize that there are now stores that really care about the plus size women’s clothing customer. These same stores now employ people that understand the plus size customer and want to offer them the best shopping experience possible.

One of the most critical elements in designing plus size women’s clothing is being aware that in many instances you just can’t take clothes designed for a smaller customer and make it larger. When planning a new clothing line; cut, color, drape, and fabric play key roles and need to be considered carefully.

Fashion designers become engaged in the business because they want  their customers to enjoy wearing their clothes.  Full figured women want to feel and look beautiful like other, more petite women and maybe turn a few heads in the process. Glamour and sophistication never go out of style and know no restrictions.
